Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner - Sky & Sand + All The Various Remixes
Artist: Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner
Track: Sky & Sand
Label: BPitch Control
This track was huge 2 summers ago but now all of a sudden all these random remixes of it are coming out. It's not the usual Friday song feel, but considering it really does finally feel like the end of summer, I figure something a little more chill is in order. You decide your favorite. Welcome to the weekend.

Heatbeat - Roses Never Cry
Heatbeat - Roses Never Cry (ASOT 525) by HOZ.DJ
Artist: Heatbeat
Track: Roses Never Cry
Label: Garuda
Another phenomenal track by the guys in Heatbeat. I really hate when styles of music are super polarizing, like straight, cheese, epic build up trance or super minimal, repetitive house. Heatbeat is that perfect example of that burgeoning "trouse" sound that is becoming so popular, blending multiple genres into one song. Marcel Woods even has a new label he founded called Trouse Records. While this definitely leans more trance over progressive or house I still think it's a great song.

Filo & Peri ft. Sara Crockett & Goodbye Pluto - The Hardest Thing
Filo & Peri ft Sara Crockett & Goodbye Pluto - The Hardest Thing (Original Mix) by dleitz1
Artist: Filo & Peri ft. Sara Crockett & Goodbye Pluto
Track: The Hardest Thing
Label: Garuda
Really interesting sound and transition happening here. You have Filo and Peri, who are trance main staples and usually traditionalists. But then you have this song, which is really verging into that mainstream, radio friendly sound. When I first heard this it was in the middle/end of a set, the vocals were interlaced over the break of another song and all I really got from it was the break, which I thought was awesome. On second listen, I'm not too sure. It's def a head mover, but would you be embarrassed if someone heard you blasting this in your car? hmmmm

Chris Lake - Sundown + Chris Lake - Secrets in the Dark
Artist: Chris Lake
Track: Sundown
Label: Rising Music
The current king of vocal house does it again with another stompers, this time I had to include the Ibiza anthem "Secrets in the Dark" (below). Chris Lake always has this great quality to his songs where his musicianship shines through but his role as a DJ and EDM producer is not lost.

Thomas Gold - Sing 2 Me
Artist: Thomas Gold
Track: Sing 2 Me
Label: Unknown
I don't know how or why I've become such a big Thomas Gold fan, but his lives sets are always amazing and his production work is infectious. Phenomenal work. I mean it definitely fits smack dab directly in that progressive house sound, but his sound is always unique, dare i say original. Once the full rip drops you can be sure I will have it on here.

Hard Rock Sofa - True Emotion
Artist: Hard Rock Sofa
Track: True Emotion
Label: Spinnin
The Russians do it again. This track has been on repeat for me, especially coming from the Thomas Gold live set off of Radio FG a couple of weeks ago. Awesome energy, excellent drop and all around crowd pleasing banger. I'm not a fan of the vocal mix but check it out if you like. Welcome to the weekend.

James Blunt - Dangerous (Deniz Koyu & Johan Wedel Remix)
Artist: James Blunt
Track: Dangerous (Deniz Koyu & Johan Wedel Remix)
Label: Atlantic
Whoa. Am I getting a Genesis vibe from the 80's from the vocal sample or what. The first minute and a half of the song you have no idea whats coming then all of a sudden at 2:15 this goes full on club track. Like complete progressive house, epic chord madness. This is one of those tracks that got lost in the summer shuffle but is finally getting its due in the fall. Awesome use of a mellow James Blunt sample in the overall vibe.

Norman Doray - Kalifornia
Artist: Norman Doray
Track: Kalifornia
Label: Strictly Rhythm
Feel good prog house with a funky, french style, disco sample. Norman Doray has always made some quality tracks and this one is no exception. I'm not a fan of the David Tort remix, so if I were you I would stick with the original.

Porter Robinson - Unison + Porter Robinson - Say My Name
Artist: Porter Robinson
Tack: Unison
Label: OWSLA
The word has been out on this kid for some time now, as he gained major exposure as the opening act on both the Skrillex and Tiesto tours. And the kid's only 19. Big, fat, crunchy, dirty, electro beats at their finest. "Say My Name" especially has some really interesting added elements in the breakdown that are almost trance like. Kid's got a future.

Axwell - Feel The Vibe (Whelan & Di Scala Remix)
Artist: Axwell
Track: Feel The Vibe (Whelan & Di Scala Remix)

Just an amazing remix to an already amazing song. I've been listening to this one for the past couple months so I thought I would share. If you can't get moving to this song check your pulse, because you might be dead.

DJ Mehdi - Signature (Thomas Bangalter Edit) - R.I.P.
Artist: DJ Mehdi
Track: Signature (Thomas Bangalter Edit)
Label: Ed Banger
Very sad day with the passing of DJ Mehdi. I present one of the best glitch edit songs of all time and a timeless banger, "Signatune".

Sander van Doorn - Drink to Get Drunk
Artist: Sander Van Doorn
Track: Drink to Get Drunk
Label: Doorn
I'm not going to debate whether this is Sander or Different Gear vs Sia (Sander van Doorn Remix), but what I do know, is that this is a Sia song. And this is a Sia vocal sample. Regardless, this is a jam of a song and standard van Doorn style, club rocking and big chords.

Pryda - 2Night
Artist: Pryda
Track: 2Night
Label: Pryda
I can't even begin to explain how big of a Prydz fan I am. Besides crossing ever genre known to man in his music, he makes tracks that really are that good. I don't know if he figured out some secret formula to what the human ear and mind are attracted to, but he's got it. Whether is an alias like Pryda, Cirez D or whatever; his music is phenomenal and always stands the test of time. How many of you if you put on "Call on Me" right now would still nod your head? Yea, I thought so. Welcome to the weekend.

Lucid - I Can't Help Myself (Tim Mason Remix)
Artist: Lucid
Track: I Can't Help Myself (Tim Mason Remix)
Label: MFU
Jeeeesus. Tim Mason absolutely MURDERS this track. Like, redrum murder5000 crazy nutso. Just kills the remix of this track from 1997. Face melting drop after an ear scorching break, and it keeps building and building and getting better. Followed by the big break around the 4:00 mark, I've been waiting all summer for a track like this. It seems like after June everyone just forgot how to make good music or something, and all the tracks were boring and sounded the same. There were days I literally struggled to find a song I liked to post. And let me tell you...I really really like this song....

Massive Attack - Teardrop (Bart Claessen & Tom Fall Bootleg)
Artist: Massive Attack
Tack: Teardrop (Bart Claessen & Tom Fall Bootleg)
Label: Bootleg
You want the definition of emotional trance, this is it. Just a really great, beautiful trance track. This was dropped during Above and Beyond's Essential Mix a month or so ago on Radio 1 and I've been playing it ever since. Seems like aapproproiate track to post on a rainy day here in NYC. Enjoy.

Hard-Fi - Fire in the House (Tiesto Remix) + Hard Fi - Hard To Beat (Axwell Mix)
Artist: Hard-Fi
Track: Fire in the House (Tiesto Remix)
Label: Atlantic
After seeing a cover story on Tiesto the other week and reading about how he has the record for the single largest show by a DJ (Los Angeles, 25,000 attendance); it really has become clear that not only is he a marketing machine, hes also a genius. His new form of trouse or progressive or electro or whatever the hell you want to call it really is the jam popular EDM music at this point. And if you look back, he's being playing this style longer than any DJ that's at the top of the game now. But it was a bit surprising that he remixed a Hard-Fi song, because as long as I can remember I have been listening to the Axwell remix of "Hard to Beat" (below), which still carries the test of time after almost 7 years.
Artist: Hard-Fi
Track: Hard to Beat (Axwell Mix)

Nervo ft. Afrojack & Steve Aoki - We're All No One (Hook n Sling Remix)
Artist: Nervo ft. Afrojack & Steve Aoki
Track: We're All No One (Hook n Sling Remix)
Label: Dim Mak
Looks like a solid collaboration form the first single off the Nervo album. The girls know how to make a splash by their entry into the scene, why not do it with two heavyweights. Welcome to the weekend.

Rusko - Everyday (Netsky Remix) + Rusko ft. Amber Coffman - Hold On (Sub Focus Remix) + Rusko - Everyday + Netsky - Memory Lane
Artist: Rusko
Track: Everyday (Netsky Remix)
Label: Mad Decent
Dubstup superstar Rusko gets some remix help from Netsky to make an absolute face melter with "Everyday", much different than the original (below). Rusko has always put out (in my opinion) really top notch, well produced tracks. It's the remix work however, that has really shines in the mainstream. You literally can not have a discussion about dubstep without Rusko, the man is a pioneer and innovator, which makes the Netsky connection all the more interesting. Netsky has been a traditional drum n bass DJ and producer for a bit now, but there seems to be a huge correlation between the movement of DnB DJs into dubstep. Is it the more mainstream appeal, is it the fact that its a brand new genre and they'd like to be the forefront? I'm not even sure where the genre lines are anymore between the two as so many musical factors are prevalent in both styles of music and often mixed together. I'm interested to see where this progression goes....
