Emma Hewitt - Colours (Armin van Buuren Remix)

Artist: Emma Hewitt
Track: Colours (Armin van Buuren Remix)
Label: Armada

Beautifully done trance track, but then again you expect nothing more from an Armin remix. There just really is something about Emma Hewitt's voice that is so enchanting. Maybe it's because she has made herself a dance music staple and we're all just used to it, or maybe she just really is that good, There's some people voices that just fit, like with OceanLab and later on Richard Bedford with Above & Beyond. Certain producers have their vocal muses that just fit, and Emma is one for a bunch of producers. Wait for about 3:30 in the track then get your face melting on. Welcome to the weekend.

Holden & Thompson - Nothing (Aeonism Remix) + Original

Artist: Holden & Thompson
Track: Nothing (Aeonism Remix)

Straight up solid trance with great vocals with a 2011 rework. Not much else to say but enjoy. James Holden, Julie Thompson, 2003. Boom.

Jochen Miller - BAMM!

Artist: Jochen Miller
Track: BAMM!
Label: High Contrast

The one thing I like about Jochen Miller is that he always deliver. Consistently good beats and strong synths. Much like Marco V, the guy has carved a niche out for himself and I can guarantee you on any given night someone is going to be banging a track of his on the main floor.

Reflekt vs Eric Prydz - Need To Feel Loved 2Night + Goldtrixx & Andrea Brown - It's Love (Trippin') (Redondo Remix)

Artist: Reflekt vs Eric Prydz
Track: Need To Feel Loved 2Night
Label: bootleg

What do you get when you take amazing vocals and put them over arguably the song of 2011, an even better song. Coupled with a 2011 reworking of a classic (below), I'm always happy to see resurrections when for the better.

Artist: Goldtrixx & Andrea Brown
Track: It's Love (Trippin') (Redondo Remix)

Adrian Lux feat. The Good Natured - Alive (Basto Remix)

Artist: Adrian Lux feat. The Good Natured
Track: Alive (Basto Remix)
Label: Ultra

Take two house mainstays, Basto! and Adrian Lux, put them together with some solid vocals and what do you get. An unusually upbeat progressive house song that you could hear on any top 40 radio station. Not a bad start to the week.

Marina & The Diamonds - Radioactive (Tom Staar Remix)

Artist: Marina & The Diamonds
Track: Radioactive (Tom Staar Remix)
Label: 679 Records

Tom Staar absolutely destroys this remix. Murders. Marina's voice to begin with is beautiful, putting that Tom Starr signature touch on the track makes this a complete stomper. Sweeping synths in the break, electro stomp, "My heart is nuclear". Bass lines so low you might have to wear diapers to the club. Welcome to the weekend.

Michael Calfan - Resurrection (Axwell's Recut Club Version)

Artist: Michael Calfan
Track: Resurrection (Axwell's Recut Club Version)
Label: Axtone

Massive, massive track. Every one's been dropping this tune off of Axtone for a couple months, and for good reason. When you hear this in the big room with full strobes, lasers and smoke going; the DJ tends to accentuate the drop a bit; bull horn, hype up, whatever. The break after is well....ohh weeee.

Emeli Sande - Heaven (Patrick Hagenaar Bootleg)

Emeli Sande- Heaven Patrick Hagenaar Bootleg by dleitz1
Artist: Emeli Sande
Track: Heaven (Patrick Hagenaar Bootleg)
Label: bootleg

Holllyyyy fuckkkkk this is a jam. This literally had me out of my chair fist pumping with one leg on my desk. This is one of the most ridiculous progressive house songs I've heard all year, and it's a bootleg. Laidback Luke predicted that the new trend for 2012 will be combining house and dubstep. Like trance used to do with breaks in the chorus or breakdown. This song combines both and beats the shit out of the drums in the meantime. Like. Shit. I'm sorry, if you don't like this song, I dunno what you can do. But this is ridiculous. Straight high end energy.

Serge Devant ft. Coyle Girelli - On Your Own (David Tort Remix) + Original

Artist: Serge Devant ft. Coyle Girelli
Track: On Your Own (David Tort Remix)
Label: Ultra

Boy oh boy oh boy, what a track. Brooklyn native and dominating house force Serge Devant being remixed by French progressive house up and comer David Tort. Boom. I love the original, but this, puts a whole new level on it.

Track: On Your Own

Kele vs. Sander van Doorn ft. Lucy Taylor - What Did I Do + Solis & Sean Truby Featuring Anthya - Timeless (Protoculture Remix)

Artist: Kele vs. Sander van Doorn ft. Lucy Taylor
Track: What Did I Do
Label: Doorn

First up is a pretty standard track by the new-style of Sander van Doorn. Definitely cross over stuff verging on the likes of Guetta and Afrojack, but with a bit more flair. The guys got a successful formula and he is sticking to it, you can't fault him for that.

In contrast, Protoculture's bass lines are just ridiculous and second to none in the trance world. Evidence of his strong psytrance background makes this a true school style production method.

Track: Timeless (Protoculture Remix)

Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso vs. Alesso - Together vs. Nillionare

Artist: Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso vs. Alesso
Track: Together vs. Nillionare
Label: bootleg

In honor of the gents playing Madison Square Garden in NYC, the song that opens up pretty much every Swedish House Mafia set. I saw someone post the quote on Facebook, "tonight...we rave". Indeed. Tonight we do. Welcome to the weekend.

Tom Flynn - Mr. Hedgehog + Marco Lys & Michael Gray - Remember

Artist: Tom Flynn
Track: Mr. Hedgehog
Label: Dirtybird

Two solid, solid tracks here. The first with a funky, techno feel and the second just a phenomenal house song. Both should have toes tapping back to back.

Boom Jinx ft. Justine Suissa - Phoenix From The Flames (Maor Levi Remix) + Blizzard & Omnia Remix + Cub Mix

Artist: Boom Jinx ft. Justine Suissa
Track: Phoenix From The Flames (Maor Levi Remix)
Label: Ajunabeats

This is one of those vocal trance songs with vocals so beautiful and catchy you start to think that maybe American music culture will begin to value dance music as a legitimate genre as actually having song structure. The best three mixes here, I'm partial to the Maor Levi one with the little underlying piano riffs, but you decide yourself.

Umek & Christian Cambas - Heroes Of The Night (Original Mix) + Pleasurekraft Remix

Artist: Umek & Christian Cambas
Track: Heroes Of The Night (Original Mix)
Label: 1605

OOohhweeeee, a little toe tapping music for an unproductive Tuesday afternoon, just what the doctor ordered. If your head isn't involuntarily nodding by the end of the song you might be dead. Bonus Pleasurekraft remix for good measure.

Track: Heroes Of The Night (Pleasurekraft Reix)

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - AKA...What A Life! (UNKLE Remix) + Original

Artist: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds
Track: AKA...What A Life! (UNKLE Remix)
Label: Sour Mash recrods

Dayam, what a remix, reminds me of old Prodigy or Chemical Brothers. Just real grimy bass lines and beats. I'm pretty sure not matter who you are, you can find a good situation to make use of this track. The original (below) is tripped out and amazing enough on it's own, just making good things better. Great things bestest? I'm not sure which ones right.

Alesso - Raise Your Head

Artist: Alesso
Track: Raise Your Head
Label: Refune

I've tried to ignore how much of a jam this track is....but I just can't anymore. After hearing it in the big room over the weekend and Pete Tong making it the Essential New Tune, I just cant help but like it, its a BANGER. I admit defeat.

Daddy´s Groove - Wild World + Daddy's Groove & Little Mark - We Are In Da House + Daddy's Groove & Little Mark - Fairy Tale (Vocal Mix)

Artist: Daddy's Groove
Track: Wild World
Label: white (as of now)

Thisss is what I'm talkin about. Solid house music with an upbeat and undeniably catchy piano groove. Good times had by all, hands in the air, spilling drinks on everyone and no one caring. Absolutely Italian in production and sampling, these guys are like Italy's version of Swedish House Mafia or Hard Rock Sofa to Russia. Moto bene. Makes me miss summer a bit....

Label: Test Pressing

Youngblood Hawke - Burning Down (Meck Remix) + Jerome Isma-Ae - Speed

Artist: Youngblood Hawke
Track: Burning Down (Meck Remix)
Label: white

Very interesting that Meck would remix the independent/unsigned LA band Youngblood Hawke, considering they're relatively unknown. The sample is pretty damn catchy though and the track is a solid middle-of-the-set type.

I wanted to contrast "Burning Down" with another track that's a solid middle-of-the-set groove, the new one by Jerome Isma-Ae. While they are both obviously very different in the song structure I think both are solid additions taking into consideration who the crowd is.

Depends who wants to shake their ass and why I guess....

Artist: Jerome Isma-Ae
Track: Speed

Jeremy Olander - Loveflight 2012 + Jeremy Olander - Airsteala + Jeremy Olander - Ganza

Artist: Jeremy Olander
Track: Loveflight 2012
Label: white

Recently highlighted on Pete Tong's BBC radio show, it seems that Swede Jeremy Olander is going places. Newly signed to the Pryda family, his tracks have a very low key head nodding characteristic (oddly similar to Mr. Prydz himself). If you're in the mood to go take a long drive somewhere, he might be your soundtrack. Swedes are taking over the world I tell you.

High Contrast ft. Tiesto & Underworld - The First Note Is Silent (Tiesto Remix) + Cosmic Gate ft. JSomething - Over The Rainbow

Artist: High Contrast ft. Tiƫsto & Underworld
Track: The First Note Is Silent (Tiesto Remix)
Label: Hospital

There's something about these two songs that I can't really put my finger on. In the first Tiesto track it's like some strange mixture of his old trance style and his new progressive house style, and I'm not sure I like it. I really like from 5 minutes on, the rest of the track can vapor really.

In the second Cosmic Gate track the the singer sounds like Adam Levine or something, I just don't know. Either way this song is a massive crossover hit, and with good reason, this album is phenomenal. But do I like it? Am I going to hear this at the club this weekend and be like yeaaaa boyyyy this is my jam.? Prolly not.

Both these songs are kinda blah, but it's what the kids like nowadays...

Artist: Cosmic Gate ft. JSomething
Track: Over the Rainbow
Label: Blackhole
