Buy Now - Bodycrash + Supermode - Tell Me Why
Artist: Buy Now
Track: Bodycrash
Label: La'Mode
Long before Swedish House Mafia, the three respective DJ's all had their own succesful solo careers. That's not to say that they didn't often collaborate with each other and create super succesful singles in their own side projects. So Ipresent to you on this Throwback Saturday, my two favorite tracks from those collaborations. From 2008 we have "Bodycrash" by Buy Now (Seb Ingrosso and Steve Angello) and from 2006 "Tell Me Why" by Supermode (Steve Angello & Axwell). I hope you enjoy these as much as I did and still do. Now go get yourself a drink.

Florence & The Machine - Spectrum (Calvin Harris Extended Remix) + Maya Jane Coles Remix
Artist: Florence & The Machine
Track: Spectrum (Calvin Harris Extended Remix)
Label: Island
So here we have two remixes of the same Florence & The Machine by two very different producers with two very different styles. As we know from past remixes Florence translates quite well to EDM with her lofty and emotional vocals. The first remix is from the man of the moment, Calvin Harris, putting his usual feel good, agreeable spin on the track. More of a radio friendly remix of the two, but something you wouldn't mind hearing out at a bar somewhere. The second and much deeper remix is by Maya Jane Coles, who has quickly risen through the house music ranks for her individual sound and personality while spinning. More of a new production than a straight up remix, Coles' track is more for your lounge enviroment or a calmer night out. Two tracks, two personalities, two tastes. Your choice. Welcome to the weekend.

Major Lazer - Get Free (Andy C Remix) + Drumsound & Bassline Smith ft. Tom Cane - Through the Night + Ali Love - Diminishing Returns (Alvin Risk Remix)
Artist: Major Lazer
Track: Get Free (Andy C Remix)
Label: Mad Decent
It's high time there was a momentum change up and we've had a little bit of a DnB/Dubstep/breakbeat post, and my word I think today is the day. Direct your ear drums to these three gems rounding out the range of thumps from DnB to full blow wompy substep. Round one warms you up with a nee Major Lazer being remixed by Andy C, a real feel good vocal sample, swing your arms in front of you doing the Carlton Dance type of track.
After you wipe the smile off your face, mosey on over to entry number two from Drumsound & Bassline Smith a veteran drum n bass outfit from the UK. True legacy DnB here. Reminds me of an old J Majik song I used to love. The energy level is here, same awesome background sampling and repitive vocals. This is the kind of track that, if you don't know how to dance to this music, makes you want to try until you learn. I lterally listened to this song on repeat 5 times today alone.
Lastly we have an Alvin Risk remix of Ali Love's "Diminishing Returns" with full analog video game songs and warbled bass extravaganza. If you haven't noticed the comme theme here is beautiful vocal samples or remixes. Maybe I should have started the last track first and vice versa to calm everyone down from being all riled up, but either way, all three and sure fire skull knockers.

John Dahlback - Embrace Me (Dirty South Remix)
Artist: John Dahlback
Track: Embrace Me (Dirty South Remix)
Label: Phazing
The last we saw John Dahlback he was killing it with "Life" and "Heros". The guy has an amazing, airy and relateable sound, so matter what level your immersion into dance music is. Couple his production work with Dirty South's remixing ability and you have yourself another sun out, shades on, drink in hand summer anthem. Vocals with a touch of sweetness, Guetta/Avicci'ish meoldy sampling and a hands in the air drop for the festival kids, count this one as a summer winner.

Patrick Hagenaar - Golden Nugget
Artist: Patrick Hagenaar
Track: Golden Nugget
Label: Hed Kandi
I couldn't really put my finger on why I like this song so much but I really do. It seems so simple. The chord progression, the beat, the break. At 2 minutes the track picks up with added elements that really make it stand out, and personally made me shake my ass a bit more. And then I remembered why. Patrick Hagenaar absolutely killed the bootleg of "Heaven" by Emeli Sande; like destroyed with crazy aggression in one of the best remixes and bootlegs I have ever heard. So lush, so lovely. So no wonder I liked this song so much, the guy is borderline musical genius. Maybe that's taking it a bit far, but click the link and listen to "Heaven" again and tell me the shit isn't nutso. I dare ya.

Calvin Harris ft. Example - We'll Be Coming Back + R3hab EDC NYC Remix
Artist: Calvin Harris ft. Example
Track: We'll Be Coming Back
Label: Fly Eye
Something a little bit calmer/less face melting for sure to be a lazy Monday after the weekend. The beat just strong enough to be a second cup of coffee to get you going. I do like Example and Calvin Harris separately, but I have to agree with one youtube commenter that one of the special aspects of Calvin Harris' productions is that he personally sings over them, giving that unique aspect as unprocessed. The song is a hit, translates well to the headphones or the dance floor. Calvin Harris is the new "it" DJ? Who even knows what that means.... but if you want a bit more pep in your step, check out the R3hab remix below.

Lentos - Forget About Us (Barnes and Heatcliff Remix)
Artist: Lentos
Track: Forget About Us (Barnes and Heatcliff Remix)
Label: Coldharbour
I think every Saturday I'm going to start a new tradition of posting throw back jams. Not so much songs from 1999, but tracks that aren't necessarily new and may have been phenomenal in the time before I started this blog. The first being a Coldharbour release from 2009 bu Lentos. If the name doesn't sound familiar, it shouldn't. But the remixers should. Barnes & Heatcliff doing the damn thing on this track. Now go get yourself a drink.

Mikael Weermets vs. Bauer & Lanford - Out Of Control
Artist: Mikael Weermets vs. Bauer & Lanford
Track: Out Of Control
Label: Musical Freedom
Tiesto's Musical Freedom really is starting to build quite a nice for themselves in the progressive house arena. Great uplifting, vocal house here, I'm sure perfected under the boss man's supervision. This song isn't going to change your life but it's a hell of feel good track with solid drops and melodies, just enough to get you excited that it's a sunny Friday and your next few days are looking preeeeetttyyy good. Welcome to the weekend.

Lukcy Date - I Love The Way You Move + Lucky Date - I Want You + Lucky Date - Six 16
Artist: Lucky Date
Track: I Love The Way You Move
Label: Unreleased
Lucky Date has been flying under the radar for a minute now. Going on the Excision tour for opening support, the Chicago native is starting to make a name for himself. He's hitting all the major festivals and slowly building a following for himself. His music is a cross between progressive house and techno or tech house, I'm not even sure I know the categories any more. I heard "I Want You" a little while ago and thought okay solid song, but then I relistened to Funkagenda's set from EDC and heard Six 16 again and though wow, different spin bu still solid ass song. Nowwww, we move onto "I Love the Way You Move" with it's storming bass line and lofty vocal sample....I think we go ourselves a little situation here......

Savoy ft. Heather Bright - We Are The Sun (Laidback Luke Remix)
Artist: Savoy ft. Heather Bright
Track: We Are The Sun (Laidback Luke Remix)
Label: Spinnin
Class act all the way here. Anthem status written all over it. Catchy and accessible enough for the mainstream, bouncy and wompy enough for the techno crowd. Repeatable vocals from a recognizable name coupled with that trademark Laidback Luke bass warble and piano chord progression. What else can I say, the song is a classic Luke summer stormer. Case closed.

Armin Van Buuren - We Are Here To Make Some Noise (Maison & Dragen Remix) + Judge Jules Remix
Artist: Armin Van Buuren
Track: We Are Here To Make Some Noise (Maison & Dragen Remix)
Label: Armada
I didn't really like the original song when I first heard it, I thought it was a bit formulaic and bowed to the current style of big room progressive house/trouse/whatever. I mean sure, the air horn sound is great for high energy and if you heard this mid-set at a festival you would probably bounce your face off, but I didn't feel like there was any real substance to it. That is until I heard the Maison & Dragen remix, which put a real textured funk and fun twist on it. They took a face melting, festival anthem and made a real toe tapping groove track. Obviously from my prior posts I'm a huge fan of the Finnish duo, so I decided to dive deeper into the release and listen to some of the other remixes. And that's when I heard the Judge Jules remix. It's like a completely different song all together. I was of course sad to learn Jules would no longer be on Radio 1 and wanted to retire, so when I heard this production it gave me that bit of hope that he would reconsider and stay in the game, because his remix is superb as well. If I didn't tell you it was a remix you would think it is a whole new, lofty, uplifting Jules production.

Ken Loi ft. Zashanell - All It Takes
Artist: Ken Loi ft. Zashanell
Track: All It Takes
Label: Musical Freedom
Ken Loi is one of the names that is going to start to become very familiar with people very soon. Signed to Musical Freedom and acting as opener on a handful of Tiesto tour dates, the guy seems to have the pedigree and the guidance to make it big. Listening to "All It Takes", this could very easily been Tiesto or (add some more pianos and glitches) a Hardwell track. It's got all the elements to make it a hit, something a good student obviously takes note of from his label boss.

Ronski Speed - Proton12 (Ronski Speed vs. Cressida Mix)
Artist: Ronski Speed
Track: Proton12 (Ronski Speed vs. Cressida Mix)
Label: Enhanced Music
This is a bit of an odd Saturday selection but I have come to realize that everyone pregames to different types of music, or maybe you're not even going out. Bring an older one you might have loved back. Maybe you're sitting at home with some friend, smoking a hooking and just getting a little wonky indoors. This is your perfect track. Beautiful chord progression, standard vocals of nothing then booooooom, big drop. From mellow to HELLO in 5 seconds flat. Go get yourself another drink.

Phats & Small vs. The Cube Guys - Turn Around + Original
Artist: Phats & Small vs. The Cube Guys
Track: Turn Around
Label: Ego
Honestly what better way is there to start off your weekend than some Italio-nudisco sounds. Italian DJs and producers The Cube Guys have reworked the Phats and Smalls classic "Turn Around" with a bit more or a 2012 sound. If you're looking for a late 90's jam, the original is below. Not too much to say about this one. Put it on, turn it up, shake your ass and try to wipe the smile off your mug. Welcome to the weekend.

Gemini ft. Greta Svabo Bech - Fire Inside
Artist: Gemini ft. Greta Svabo Bech
Track: Fire Inside
Label: Inspected
I've been listening to this track nonstop for a week now, and I'm pretty sure it will be another couple of weeks until I can stop. The synths are absolutely massive and then when you least expect it after the vocal drop, booooooom funky bass lines, rolling synths and a dubstepy warble. This track has been out since April but it only seems like recently that all the heavyweights started banging it out in their sets and radio shows. Maybe it was undermarkted or undereleased, but I have a feeling you're going to be hearing this banger all summer. Speaking of the vocals, Greta from "Raise Your Weapon" fame seems to have a bright future in the industry.

Chuckie - Live at EDC NYC
You want to talk about Dirty Dutch, Jesus this is it. I thought Laidback Luke's live sets were creative and high energy, but Chuckie's set from EDC NYC was absolutely the definition of "Get your ass up and hands in the air festival music" Just the first 15 minutes alone is enough to give a small animal a heart attack. Enjoy.

Gregori Klosman - Minibar
Artist: Gregori Klosman
Track: Minibar
Label: Hysteria Records
Being released on the Bingo Players imprint Hysteria i figured this song a straight up house jam, when I first listened to this track I didn't expect it to be as energetic as it is. This jam is straight fire energy, no way around it. Not a lot of ups and downs or builds and drops; just some catchy ass riffs and straight energy you feel from the vocal sample. Even the main break around the 2:30 minute mark starts off a bit ominous and builds up to that standard, progressive house, epic chord progression we're all used to. But that's it. A little taste of what you're used to and right back in an all out rager. It's like the sample is a wonky didgeridoo on crack, but I dig it.

Laidback Luke ft. Martel - We Are The Stars
Artist: Laidback Luke ft. Martel
Track: We Are The Stars
Label: Mixmash
Things have been a little bit trancey over the past week so I wanted to switch it up on this Monday and give you mind a break but make sure your toes keep tapping. Laidback Luke is one of my favorite artists for reasons of consistency, pure energy and amazing live sets that are second to none. He manages to combine elements of house, hip hop, turntablism, pop music, everything. I feel like this song is an excellent example of one of the ways he can take things, the song is catchy enough that it could be played on radio and the lyrics are everyone-friendly; but the drop at the 2 minute mark is absolutely devastating, In true Laidback Luke style, he makes sure your ears will be sore while still making you feel good on the inside.

Gareth Emery - The Saga
Artist: Gareth Emery
Track: The Saga
Label: Garuda
There's very few producers and DJs nowadays that you can count on to deliver continuous quality in both their productions and live sets. Gareth Emery has been doing so for years, was back when in the GTR days. His new one "The Saga" continues on the same path as his prior productions with a bit less loft and a bit more homage the old days of trace, circa late 90's/early 2000's. It might just be me but the song has a nostalgic feel.
Now go get yourself a drink and reminisce.

Swanky Tunes & Hard Rock Sofa - The Edge
Artist: Swanky Tunes & Hard Rock Sofa
Track: The Edge
Label: Wall Recordings
With Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes you always get what you pay. These guys are so intertwined not only by blood (the little brother of one of the guys in Swanky Tunes is in Hard Rock Sofa) but by style and the ability to constantly churn out bangers. Thick synths, driving bass lines and pounding beats, that's what the Russians do. The track has festival written all over it, and for good reason, all the heavyweights have been banging this out out in the middle of their sets when they want to see everyone jump. Festival approved. Summer approved. Friday approved. Welcome to the weekend.

Tiesto & Showtek - Hell Yeah!!
Artist: Tiesto & Showtek
Track: Hell Yeah!!
Label: Musical Freedom
Almost like a follow up to Maximal Crazy, Tiesto partners up with Showtek to drop "Hell Yeah!!". Showtek shared production duties on Maximal Crazy and it's interesting to see Tiesto partner up with a producer who tends to have a bit of a harder sound than himself. I'm not saying this is a classic by any means by the chameleon named Tiesto seems to be seriously delving into his labels namesake, musical freedom.

Paul Oakenfold ft. J Hart - Surrender (Protoculture Remix)
Artist: Paul Oakenfold ft. J Hart
Track: Surrender (Protoculture Remix)
Label: Perfecto
BOOM. Straight up, in your face, old school, mother effing vocal trance. Cannnnnn yoooouuuu diiigggg ittttt? Rolling bass lines, pace right around 140 BPM, arching melodies with a hint of the cinematic, echoing vocals by someone who sounds very sad saying things like "Surrender" or "Tomorrrowwww" or "Looooveeeeee". Long, extended break with over the top synths and build up. Check, check, check. At 2:30 this thing turns into what you know, love and miss about old trance. I personally love this shit. Leave it to the old master (Paul Oakenfold) to be remixed by the new masters (Protoculture) to make a meeting of the minds and generations. Solid god damn trancer here my friends.
And if you were looking for a house post......sorry......

Michael Woods - Warrior
Artist: Michael Woods
Track: Warrior
Label: Diffused
I didn't know if I'd see the day when he would actually do it, but Michael Woods has made over his own classic track "Warrior". You should know, however if you don't, he released the track "Warrior" years ago under the alias of the same name- Warrior. It was an instant hit and now a classic (below). Most famously the original track was utilized in the rave scene of the movie Formula 51 where Sam Jackson throws all the pills on the dancefloor in this epic club montage. This reusage of the famous sample isn't so much a reinterpretation as a brand new song utilizing the best part of the previous track, like an outstanding remix of himself. But when that famous sample kicks in you know exactly what you got yourself into. If you have the pleasure of hearing this live, the vocal sample tends to get thrown in as well. Awesome track.

Arty - Open Space
Artist: Arty
Track: Open Space
Label: Ajunabeats
When I first heard this song I thought to myself "there's no one else this dong could be by other than Arty. That harmony progression is totally his style." Low and behold, I looked at the track list and there was the Russian's name. And I'm glad I was right, that it was a new Arty production and not someone trying to bite off his style. The kid is an individual in productions, and I love them. Funky, off beat and a grooved out change from your standard house or trance or trouse or whatever. This song's an ass shaker, guaranteed.

Bobina - Quattro 372
Artist: Bobina
Track: Quattro 372
Label: Magik Muzik
This is just one of those great, high energy hooks that keeps your head nodding while you zone out dancing. Body moving and you don't even know how or why. Perfect middle of the set track from the pride of Russia, Bobina. Don't spill your drink though. Or maybe you did already. Go get yourself another one.

Nelly Furtado - Big Hoops (Sultan & Ned Shepard Remix)
Artist: Nelly Furtado
Track: Big Hoops (Sultan & Ned Shepard Remix)
Label: Interscope
God damn Sultan & Ned Shepard, I think besides Ferry Corsten and Tiesto they might hold the record for most posts on this blog. Can you blame me? Listen to this track. They took Nelly Furtado, the "I'm just a bird girl", and made an outrageous face melter. Shit is pure gold. But almost all of their past productions have verged on causing a riot, so I should've expected this one. The break and vocal glitch around the 3 minute mark gives you that welcome reprieve just before a massive drop that you know is coming, and with these guys, they're experts. Listen to this one loud, but try not to hurt yourself.
Welcome to the weekend.
