The Aston Shuffle Vs. Tommy Trash - Sunrise (Won't Get Lost) (Tommy Trash Version)

Artist: The Aston Shuffle Vs. Tommy Trash
Track: Sunrise (Won't Get Lost) (Tommy Trash Version)
Label:

I posted this one before but I feel like it didn't get enough attention because it was in the middle of a Tommy Trash megapost. This track really is the jam, and with Mr. Trash coming to NYC tonight to play along Kill the Noise and Knife Party at Pier 94, I'm happier than a witch in a broom factory. Tommy Trash is my favorite live DJ and most definately not a man to be missed. Bonus EZoo set below. Welcome to the weekend.

Alvaro - Make the Crowd Go

Artist: Alvaro
Track: Make the Crowd Go
Label: Spinnin

Jesus, straight up Dutch air raid music coming at ya. It's Wednesday and it's raining here in NYC and making me sad, so why not completely blast the top off your head with some in your face Dirty Dutch style ear bangers. This one isn't going to change your life, but if you hear it in a club I guarantee you get something spilled on you.

Bastille - Flaws (Russ Chimes Remix)

Artist: Bastille
Track: Flaws (Russ Chimes Remix)
Label: Virgin

Wow, just a hell of a song here. Russ Chimes really has outdone himself with this remix, I'm not saying that it's better than "Back 2 You" which was posted about prior. BUT this is some serious house music. There are some tracks that are just timeless, maybe because they incorporate elements of the past that we like and find familiar, or maybe it's because all timeless songs really just have that special quality. The drums, the piano chord progression, the vocal sample. Who knows what it is, but this track is going down as one of my favorites of the year.

Miike Snow - Pretender (Deniz Koyu Remix) + Original

Artist: Miike Snow
Track: Pretender (Deniz Koyu Remix)
Label: Downtown

It take a lot of gusto to remix a Miike Snow track, and even more so to do it well. You enter the company of Thomas Gold, Alex Metric and of course try to join Seb Ingrosso and Dirty South's gorgeous remix of "Silvia" that I posed about prior. Most of the remixes I mentioned before really played off the soft melodies that Miike Snow created in the original track, whereas I feel Koyu took it completely the opposite way. He used the lush soundscapes that Snow devolops and makes them the basis of driving bass lines and uptempo drums. I think we can all admit the BPM is a bit faster than yo would expect from a Miike Snow remix, but the original track was extremely upbeat and had a dancey feel to begin with which is why I love it. Deniz Koyu is slowly but surely creeping to the top of every one's lists as the next guy to watch for.

Lyrics:
I didn't wanna wake up
But then I felt your touch
Now I notice that I drink too much
And the turning of the universe oh

Spent the morning as a pretender
Will this be the age of surrender
The falling dark it lines
The walls let ours combine

Markus Schulz ft. Ana Diaz - Nothing Without Me

Artist: Markus Schulz ft. Ana Diaz
Track: Nothing Without Me
Label: Coldharbour

I've been listening to Markus' Global DJ Broadcast World Tour radio show while in the gym alot recently, and the specific set that this song is in was recorded in Toronto at the Labor of Love party during Labor Day, with Markus closing. Let me tell you, this set is absolutely ridiculous, I've included it below.. Everyone knows that Markus Schulz ha the nickname the "Unicorn Slayer" for a very good reason, this shit THUMPS. The recording had to be done prime time right in the meat of the set during peak hours. Regardless, this one vocal track has stuck out for me as I listened to the set over and over. I don't know what it is about it, the vocal, the build up, the harmony, the break, the bass; I'm not sure. All I know is I love it, especially the lyrics:

All I am
All I know
Is hanging by the thinnest thread

If you leave
If you go
I might as well be gone, be dead

I’m the bad
I’m the waterfall in your head
I’m the know it all
I will never leave you alone

Cause you know
You know we belong together
And we’re only strong together
You are nothing without me

If you run
You’ll be on the run forever
I will haunt your mind forever
You are nothing without me

Completely the opposite of a love song, more like the threats of a jilted lover, giving the track that much more of a darker edge instead of fluffing it up. Everyone knows break ups are tough, especially when they other person doesn't fight for it and just accept its, almost like it's defeat. Seems like the person in this song is doing the exact opposite.

Play this one loud. Welcome to the weekend.

Eric Prydz - Every Day + Andy C Remix

Artist: Eric Prydz
Track: Every Day
Label: Pryda

You can always count on Eric Prydz to deliver something beautiful and complex while at the same time not falling for the pitfalls of overproduction and keeping it simple. While most of his songs have almost an old school German techno touch to them with the simplistic analog sounds and bass lines, Prydz masterful touch has always been the ability to warm them up and add an element of beauty, whether it's the chord progression, melody or in this case gorgeous vocals that simply state:

"If everyday goes like this how do we survive?"
"We're working late on the night shift to get peace of mind"

No matter who you are, you will read into those lyrics however you want, and probably will. Simplistic complexity at it's finest.

If you want a bit of a pick-me-up DnB legend Andy C put his skills to the remix:

AN21 & Max Vangeli vs Kim Fai - Story

Artist: AN21 & Max Vangeli vs Kim Fai
Track: Story
Label: Size

Just an amazingly solid song from two amazingly solid producers, the duo of AN21/Max Vangeli & Kim Fai. I've been a fan of Kim Fai for some time now as you can tell from recent posts and I feel like his production style really reigned in he off the walls, face melting style of 21/Vangeli. Take the same chord progressions, put the through the effects rack, bring up the mids and amp the BPM up a couple and this could be the next big room crowd pleaser. Instead its a very demure seat rocker complete with pronounced top taps. Again, on the same theme I've been on recently, it does have an emotional tinge to it, and I'm sure everyone will be thinking about/reminded of someone when listening. It is called "Story" after all. Size Records continuing to reign.

Quintino & Moti - Kinky Denise

Artist: Quintino & Moti
Track: Kinky Denise
Label: Wall Recordings

This dirty little electro banger has been making its rounds for some time now but finally got a release recently. You can always count on Quintino to bring in the grime and funk to his productions; guaranteed sweat inducing heart racers. For the lack of anything for meaningful to post today, I present a mind bomb of a party track.

Lenny Kravitz - I Can't Be Without You (DJ Ruckus, dBerrie, Dzeko & Torres Remix)

Artist: Lenny Kravitz
Track: I Can't Be Without You (DJ Ruckus, dBerrie, Dzeko & Torres Remix)
Label: Atlantic

Lenny Kravtz in my mind will always be the ultimate, soulful modern crooner, rocker with the heart of gold, all of that. His track "I Can Be Without You" really pulls on the heart strings, like any good songwriter will do. After all, music is what emotions sound like right? Group that honest emotion with the tip top production work of the "too many great producers to be name individually group" above and you go yourself a banger with heart. Original below if you feel like shedding a tear.

Tim Cullen & Brett Gould - Lovely Day 2012 (Nathan C Re-Edit)

Artist: Tim Cullen & Brett Gould
Track: Lovely Day 2012 (Nathan C Re-Edit)
Label: Toolroom

Back to back Toolroom posts? Boom, Toolroom double play, and deservedly so. I'm a big fan of moving into a deeper selection of house or techno for the winter time, it just fits the mood much better. I'm sure if I was in Miami or another temperate climate I might like the face melters all year round while bouncing in the sun, but this track seems to fit the mood appropriately. Welcome to the weekend.

Digitalism - Zdarlight (Fedde Le Grand & Deniz Koyu Remix) + Original

Artist: Digitalism
Track: Zdarlight (Fedde Le Grand & Deniz Koyu Remix)
Label: Toolroom Records

So here we have the German wunderkinds Digitalism dusting off their track from 2005 to be remixed by modern day progressive house titans FLG and Deniz Koyu annnddd being released on Toolroom. Seems like the mixture of the perfect storm. I'm also a big, big fan or remakes or reworks of songs that really hang onto the elements that made the original so great while really exploring the creative musical space to not only throw some new beats or bass line on a sample but create a whole new experience. FLG certainly have brought what is now a classic track (if you're a fan of German techno) into the modern day

Hot Chip - Flutes (Sasha Remix)

Artist: Hot Chip
Track: Flutes (Sasha Remix)
Label: Last Night On Earth

Just a hot fire remix of an already hot fire song done by the one and only Sasha. 100% on point his sound for this track, almost reminds me of the Northern Exposure time. Not a whole lot I can say about this one but sit back and enjoy the extended mix. You could go back and listen to the original as well as a few more remixes I've posted on "Flutes" prior HERE - by why would you want to?

Calvin Harris f.t Florence Welch - Sweet Nothing (Tiesto Remix) + Qulinez Remix + Original

Artist: Calvin Harris ft. Florence Welch
Track: Sweet Nothing (Tiesto Remix)
Label: Sony

Now I'm definitely a little bit torn on this Tiesto remix. Usually Tiesto will add that but of energy to a track and really take it up a level,  but it doesn't seem like he really put any effort into until the 3 minute mark and even then the drop is pretty standard. Maybe I'm just partial to the original (below) or maybe I thought he could have done alot more with it. The fact is that right now Calvin Harris can do no wrong, and not "no wrong" in the sense of Guetta where he can blow his nose into a microphone for 20 minutes and call it a "mini-album" and the shit will go platinum. The fact is the original really is a good song, the break is as high energy as you can get with the classic Sandstorm-style warble, people just go nuts for that shit. I should know, I'm one of them. HOWEVER, the Qulinez Remix really is verging on straight, hot fire- Dylan style. All are here for your amusement to make up for me being sick the past few days.

Tiesto & Allure - Pair of Dice

Artist: Tiesto & Allure
Track: Pair of Dice
Label: Musical Freedom

So the production group that everyone thought was Tiesto actually is Tiesto and he is officially passing control over to a new gentleman, who will officially be the face and thus "live DJ" of the Allure brand. There's one thing about Tiesto, he has a flare for the dramatics. I feel like this track is less of an introduction and more of a good bye, the whole tone of the song is very epic and feel like something that would be played at a graduation ceremony behind a montage of pictures from all the graduates over the years. No doubt everyone in the crowd would have a tear in their eye and think about "all the good times" when this track is played. I'm getting side tracked, this is still a hell of a crunchy ass song. Welcome to the weekend.

Fabio Lendrum - Out The Water (Mikkas & Husman Remix) + Original

Artist: Fabio Lendrum
Track: Out The Water (Mikkas & Husman Remix)
Label Big Beat

I don't know what it is, maybe it's because I've been in a good mood or maybe because the season of summer face melters is over and the winter of smooth house music is upon us. Take Fabio Lendrum here, the guy has been signed by all the major labels and management companies and they're banking on his to be the next big thing. His original of the track (below) is pretty smooth and mellow, totally fine to hear in a restaurant or something, but the Mikkas & Husman rmix flips this thing around and provides that sound I'm looking for at the moment. At this moment I don't need wonks or tweaks or womps, I need some smooth, high energy house music to get drunk to inside; because there's no chance I'm stepping foot outside once the cold hits. If I heard this jam in a small club I'd be right at home.

Starkillers & Richard Beynon ft. Natalie Peris - What Does Tomorrow Bring

Artist: Starkillers & Richard Beynon ft. Natalie Peris
Track: What Does Tomorrow Bring
Label: Next Plateau

I felt like this Starkillers track would be the perfect follow up to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike that was posted yesterday. Both have that quintessential progressive house sound, but this Starkillers track might have it beat in the arena of energy. Huge chords, perfect for the big room and strobes and most likely underage women. I'm waiting on to see if there is a remix package coming out because i can bet you someone put their touch on this to make it absolutely bonkers.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike & Regi - Momentum (Michael Calfan Remix) + Original

Artist: Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike & Regi
Track: Momentum  (Michael Calfan Remix)
Label: Spinnin

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike always deliver what you're expecting, feel good, big room progressive house riffs with a bouncy feel and a hands in the air momentum. What I thought made this track so interesting to begin with was the addition of Regi to the production team; who is of Milk Inc. and Sylver fame. You get exactly what you pay for with the original, but my taste tends with the Michael Calfan Remix. If you remember Calfan, Axwell's edit of "Resurrection" was hands down one of the crunchiest songs of recent memory, the drop alone sent dozens of people to the mental hospital. Calfan adds a bit more of that edge I'm lookingfor while still holding the melodies of the original true.

Michael Jay Parker - Bangin (Original Mix) + Smike Van Art & A.J. Sonic - Medusa (Fridge Remix)

Artist: Michael Jay Parker
Track: Bangin
Label: High Contrast

A true banger in every sense of the word, Michael Jay Parker's single on High Contrast starts off one way and comes into it's own, very differently, and very quickly. The first 3 minutes are straight, high energy build up. Driving toward the drop and a harmonically beautiful if not french house reminiscent main body of the song, the song completely switches gears. No longer is that high energy progressive house/tech house vibe driving you towards something ominous, it's releasing you into some reassuring and pleasing. Most would think the kid has some chops and he's mad a good impression his first go around- but on the contrary "Michael Jay Parker" has been around for some time now, with his first big hit coming in trance land under his Smike van Art alias, "Medusa" (below). I personally had the Trance Nation America Two comp album back in the day and it churned out hit after hit after hit. Being released in 2001, this was still very much the golden age of CD comp albums with the Internet still being dramatically slower than it is presently. I can still remember this track being right before the Safri Duo song that was so big at the time. It's nice to see someone who made such an impact in the past coming back and making much of the same impact with a song as relevant as Medusa was back in 2001.
