Danny Avila - Breaking Your Fall (Mikael Weermets Remix) + Original

Artist: Danny Avila
Track: Breaking Your Fall (Mikael Weermets Remix)
Label: Big Beat

WOOOOO WEEEEEEEEE. Straight Friday fire music here. I swear to you that every Mikael Weermets track I come across is just absolutely ridiculous and better than the last. Let's take a look back at his body of work: "Out of Control" was literally our of control, every DJ in the world banged that one out for a couple months, the track is gorgeous and still brings a tear to my eye. Then you had "I Found You" which was as big as it gets around the festival circuit. And now this. Damn you Mikael Weermets for not allowing me to get to bed at another reasonable hour and making my downstairs neighbor hate me even more for blasting this at 4 AM. Welcome to the weekend.

Bonus: original below, shit's a jam too, credit where credit is due.

John Dahlback & Greg Cerrone ft Janice Robinson - Every Breath (Lucky Date Remix) + Original

Artist: John Dahlback & Greg Cerrone ft Janice Robinson
Track: Every Breath (Lucky Date Remix)
Label: Big Beat

Crunchy little remix from Mr. Lucky Date, who I had he pleasure of seeing in NYC a couple of months ago, and I'll tell you, this remix is a perfect example of what to expect from a set. While this remix really solely caters to the style of Lucky Date, the original Dahlback shouldn't be overlooked as well. It's lofty, emotional vocals coincide with the typically beautiful Dahlback harmonies with an equally bass heavy drop. Both tracks are winners in my book, but again it depends on what flavor you're into at the minute.

Dank ft. Jacq - Crystals + FERAL is KINKY - My Selector (Dank USA Remix)

Artist: Dank ft. Jacq
Track: Crystals
Label: Funky Element

In my opinion, a pretty big departure from his usual sound and the lyrics are definite standard cheese; but there's something about this track that made me listen to it more than handful of times. The chord progression and vocal melody was in my head for the past few days so I had to listen to it again, and again, and again. It's a great song and good to see Dank expanding the range of his production work, I would love to see this one get the big room, face melting remix it deserves.

Bonus for Dank purists, his new remix that's been charting up Beatport like fire. If you have your speakers pretty high up I'd suggest turning them down a bit, I wouldn't want to cause the expense of speaker replacement.

Phunk Investigation ft. Dino - Gold Vision + Phunk Investigation & Schuhmacher - Critical

Artist: Phunk Investigation ft. Dino
Track: Gold Vision
Label: Skint

Phunk Investigation is SERIOUS. Taking a page out of the Tiesto playbook with getting some Dino vocals on a track, these guys are on a nonstop war path. Just listen to those bass lines. AND they're Italian, and if you're a regular reader you know my soft spot for Italian dance music (I know, I know). I posted about their song "From the Dust" prior, mainly because it was released on 1605 and had a crazy, driving bass line; and looks like nothing has changed. Little Italo disco techno whateveryouwannacallit on a rainy Tuesday. Moto bene.

Deorro - Me + Deorro ft. Tess Marie - Lie

Artist: Deorro
Track: Me
Label: Shebang Recordings

Coming outta nowhere we have Deorro hailing from California. Dude used to be named Tonic but had to change it due to legal issues. I thought without a doubt in my mind the dude was Dutch given the pounding bass line glitched out Dirty Dutch style riffs. This track is serious fire if you're looking for a funky groove to shake off the turkey coma and get back into the swing of things. This is legit whiplash, spine breaking music. Listen with caution.

Bonus- a little something more radio friendly below, released by probably my favorite label name ever:

UnClubbed ft. Sarah Howells - Hide U (Matt Nash & Danny Dove Remix)

Artist: UnClubbed ft. Sarah Howells
Track: Hide U (Matt Nash & Danny Dove Remix)
Label: New State Music

It's Friday, I'm not working, I really don't know anyone else in the United States that is. That being said, enjoy a brand new remix of the most remixed and redone song of all time. This one ain't too shabby. I mean, you got Sarah Howells on the track, it can't be that bad, right?

Calvin Harris ft. Ayah Marah - Thinking About You

Artist: Calvin Harris ft. Ayah Marah
Track: Thinking About You
Label: Flye Eye/EMI

I think like Calvin Harris is my secret guilty pleasure. I have a few when I feel like listening to something with a good beat and I don't feel like having weird strobe light flashbacks at my desk at work. Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding, hell even Depeche Mode. I don't know why I think this is an appropriate Thanksgiving song, but it is quite family friendly with a hell of a groove. Enjoy your food, enjoy your day, and if you're in the U.S., Happy Thanksgiving.

Might as well put the lyrics too but apparently we're on that kick too:

…till you fall asleep
Never worried, cause I can give you what you need
Now everything I do, is over loving you
It’s not something that we’re used to
No other way to say, I need you ever day
And now I’m gonna change my ways
And it’s a part of you, I never wanna loose
I’ll do anything you want me to
Like any other day, I know I’ll find the way
And if ever round you lone I’ll say
I’ll be thinking bout you
I’ll be thinking bout you
I’ll be thinking bout you
I’ll be thinking bout you
I’ll be thinking bout you
I’ll be thinking bout you
I’ll be thinking bout you
I’ll be thinking bout you
In a moment, I know that everything got changed
And I know that my life would never be the same
You’re the only one that’s making sense to me.

A Year With Armin van Buuren - The Documentary

Mainly because I don't know anyone working a full day because of Thanksgiving, shave an hour off your day and watch this. It's actually pretty interesting.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Above & Beyond - Black Room Boy (Above & Beyond Club Mix)

Artist: Above & Beyond
Track: Black Room Boy (Above & Beyond Club Mix)
Label: Ajunabeats

Wow. You want something to get you over that 3 PM hump of the workday here it is. Above & Beyond going harrrrdddd and debuting a brand new track on their brand new radio show. Typical A&B grooves just amped up a notch, and this thing is a stormer. Richard Bedford's familiar vocals? Check. Crazy, repetitive, stomping bass line? Check? Euphoric and lofty beak? Check. But what the eff is a black room boy?

Dash Berlin ft. Kate Walsh - When You Were Around (Ferry Corsten Fix) + Dash Berlin with Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren - Man On The Run

Artist: Dash Berlin ft. Kate Walsh
Track: When You Were Around (Ferry Corsten Fix)
Label: Aropa

Ferry played this remix towards the end of his set Friday night at Pacha in NYC and it got a huge response. It's definitely a bit loftier and wayyyyy more for the softer tranceheads, but it made me think back to Dash Berlin's catalogue of music, and the dude music be seriously lonely or just love sick. Real talk, let's look at the lyrics below:

I miss those times
I miss those days
When you were around
So many ways

And it felt so safe
And I was glad
But now something's changed
Makes me sad

And I was waiting patiently
But you never came
I realize it now
Won't ever be the same, again
Won't ever be the same, again

And I was waiting patiently
But you never came
I realize it now
Won't ever be the same, again
Won't ever be the same, again

If you're doing fine
I don't know
You see, I gave up calling
Long time ago

Haven't heard from you
I guess that means
That I'm not good no more
That's what it seems

And I was waiting patiently
But you never came
I realize it now
Won't ever be the same, again
Won't ever be the same, again

I've posted previously about "Silence in Your Heart" and of course the meg post of songs with lyrics I love HERE but it all goes back to the original, and still an amazing song. I'm of course talking about "Man on the Run". Fuckin gorgeous and a now classic:

Artist: Dash Berlin with Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren
Track: Man On The Run
Label: Armada

It's such a travesty
The way you say our love should be
Yeah, such a tragedy
Think you can just break my heart and leave me
Well, you better run now
Man on the run
Playing for fun
Wind me up
Leave me undone

Bassnectar & DC Breaks ft. Mimi Page - Breathless

Artist: Bassnectar & DC Breaks ft. Mimi Page
Track: Breathless
Label: mixtape

Nothing like some good ol' bass music on a Friday to get the blood pumping. This one coming from Bassnectar, who by far has the loudest bass in the game live out of anyone. He's playing Terminal 5 here in NYC tomorrow, so you know where I'll be.

I really, really enjoy this track for how smooth it is, the headbanging happens almost effortlessly with this one. What more can I say that you already don't know from listening to the track. Friday fire feel good music. Welcome to the weekend.

Nneka - Shining Star (Joe Goddard Remix)

Artist: Nneka
Track: Shining Star (Joe Goddard Remix)
Label: Decon

Undoubtedly the summer anthem of Ibiza 2012. As the leaves start to turn and the winter weather approaches here in NYC I thought it was only fitting to bring you back to warmer weather and memories. Joe Goddard creates a masterpiece with this remix highlighting Nneka's beautiful voice and lyrics. The break at 3 minutes I think it what really gets everyone.....

In this madness, in this world,
With its swiftness and its coldness
You’re my peace of mind, yes!
When the world just jeeps turning
And I know not where to head to
You’re peace of mind!
And when I look up in the skies
Is the one that you created...

Chorus:
Oh shining star, please look down for me!
Oh, what you are?
When you look down at me
Beautiful star, do keep your eyes on me!
Oh, oh, what you are
When you look down on me?

Don Diablo ft. JP Cooper - The Artist inside

Artist: Don Diablo ft. JP Cooper
Track: The Artist Inside

Today's post is a little bit different than the 560 songs I have posted prior, and for the first time the only video I insist everyone watch while listening to this song. I saw Leon Bolier post this on his Facebook with the note "I think I'm going to go call my Dad now", so I was obviously intrigued. Dutch DJ and producer Don Diablo created this song and video as an homage to his father who recently passed from a battle with cancer. The song and the message are a beautiful celebration of the man's life, literally enshrining him forever in the world by this tribute. It's hard not to get a little bit teary eyed watching the video especially with the final lyrics of song:

"You are the artist inside of me, now I understand"

The Prodigy - Breathe (Zeds Dead Remix)

Artist: The Prodigy
Track: Breathe (Zeds Dead Remix)
Label: XL Recordings

This is what you call murdering a remix. We all remember this Prodigy classic and Zeds Dead just makes it a full on dance floor stormer. The track has some serious groove without forgetting where it came from. The breaks that incorporate the original song sample is spot on and the other elements only ass to the song, not take away from the original quality of why it was so popular to begin with. Awesome work.

Leventina - Spellbound + Leventina - Glorious + Leventina - Champagne Nights

Artist: Leventina
Track: Spellbound
Label: Unreleased Digital

Swiss production duo Leventina has been getting love from DJs in every genre, crossing the party lines from house to trance for some time now. Both these tracks are great examples of producers blurring the lines in the name of breaking production ground. In the same week I heard Laidback Luke, Gareth Emery and EDX play their tracks in live sets. It's just enough POW with big room chords to hold up in the middle of progressive house sets with just enough crafty smoothness to slide into a more progressive trance set somewhere, great stuff.

The xx - Fiction (Funkagenda Bootleg Re-Edit)

Artist: The xx
Track: Fiction (Funkagenda Bootleg Re-Edit)
Label: bootleg

Funkagenda throwing it down again. Besides being an entirely interesting Tweeter, he continues to just make excellent productions. We last heard him on the blog with his "Tubstep Symphony" that just absolutely blew me away, and now this reinvention of The xx. Absolutely perfect Friday night, get yourself going with a serious head nod while pouring yourself a drink music. High energy without being over the top and great usage of some of the original elements of the xx track. It's Friday man, time to celebrate. Welcome to the weekend.

FYI- Ferry Corsten & Markus Schulz b2b open-close tomorrow night at Echostage in DC, you know where I'll be......

The Bloody Beetroots & Greta Svabo Bech - Chronicles Of A Fallen Love

Artist: The Bloody Beetroots & Greta Svabo Bech
Track: Chronicles Of A Fallen Love
Label: Ultra

What a gorgeous song. That's the first thing that popped into my head once the distorted riffs started to beautifully meld together with the background strings, piano and the mellowness of Greta Svabo Bech's voice. Haunting, emotional, identifiable. Phenomenal piano progressions at the end break. This track could literally be played at the end of every DJ's set and there wouldn't be a dry eye in the room, no matter what genre. I'll admit it, I didn't really expect this kind of jam from the masked Italian (considering his prior productions, "WARP" below), but I am oh-so glad he made it.

Jack Beats ft. Jess Mills - Somebody to Love + Jack Beats ft. Takura - Careless

Artist: Jack Beats ft. Jess Mills
Track: Somebody to Love
Label: Deconstructed

Jack Beats is that new breed of dance music producer and DJ that didn't really fit into a genre or a certain label's style so they made their own or joined up with other nonconformists. Their most recent LP was released on Skrillex's OWSLA imprint and they have been tour with the crew of Birdy Nam Nam, Kill the Noise, Zedd, Alvin Risk, ect, ect ect. Just like Fool's Gold Records patriarch it seems that two turntablists from the UK have turned their sights on dance music and have been embraced doing so. I'm personally a fan of anyone who can mix multiple genres into a set or even a track and come out on top, Jack Beats are one of those production teams that has the knack to do so. "Careless" (below) is just an amazing, amazing song.

Pryda - Clapham + Fehrplay - I Can't Stop It

Artist: Prda
Track: Clapham
Label: Pryda

Eric Prydz literally cannot stop releasing tracks recently, and they're all pretty phenomenal. Maybe his time on his American tour has made him inspired to produce, maybe when he was traveling around Europe by train or car or however he did he just had a stockpile of material he is finally releasing. Either way all I know is the Pryda & Friends are demolishing the techno scene right now with their own brand of music. Every label has a sound you expect when you go to a label night or you see a headliner with support from another act or DJ on the same label. Both the Pryda and Fehrplay track are exactly what you come to expect from the Prydz stable, and both are phenomenal.

Adam Szabo & Willem de Roo - Lego + Adam Szabo & Willem de Roo - Royal Blue

Artist: Adam Szabo & Willem de Roo
Track: Lego
Label: Enhanced Recordings

Something about this song just fits so perfectly with the day. The city is drying out, just in time for it to get cold. This is one of those songs you kind of get lost in, staring out the window at the world passing by while the track is on repeat. By no means is this a downtempto or chill track, it has great energy and the top-tapping quotient is high on this one. I think what I'm trying to say is that the Hungarian produced track is very....smooth. Looking back on their previous collaboration I definately like the new one better for the higher energy, almost seems like they set each oher up nicely though.

Steve Angello & Third Party - Lights

Artist: Steve Angello & Third Party
Track: Lights
Label: Size

It has been an interesting couple of days here in NYC, but the power is back (for some of the city), the waters are receding and the show must go on. It is really interesting to see cars float by though.

I present the newest banger from the Size crew consisting of Steve Angello and upstarts Third Party. This one has been getting spins from all the biggies for a couple of weeks now, but with the impending doom of the apocalypse coming to Manhattan it may have slipped my mind to post it. The perfect drying out song, this one will set you straight again with familiar chords and bass lines. Cheer up, it's Friday. Welcome to the weekend.
