Bedrock - Heaven Scent (Matt Lange Secret Booty)

Artist: Bedrock
Track: Heaven Scent (Matt Lange Secret Booty)
Label: bootleg

Digweed's "Heaven Scent" is one of the original songs that got me into dance music, the first time I head it in the movie Groove. I must have watched that movie and the closing scene (below) dozens of times. It really was the one thing that got me interested in the music and club culture, and from there it spiraled out of control. It was the advent of heavy internet usage, albeit slow and MP3's. Though it took me a day to download on I can remember tying up the family computer for hours just to download a song or two. I remember and old PPK song Dance With Me or something was the first one I downloaded for free off of MP3.com. Regardless, it's a nice little flash back to hear such an iconic sample and hear such a well done reimagining of a now classic song.

Placebo - Running Up That Hill (Jerome Isma-Ae Bootleg)

Artist: Placebo
Track: Running Up That Hill (Jerome Isma-Ae Bootleg)
Label: bootleg

Jerome Isma-Ae has really been doing it for me lately. I've loved his work and posted about him prior, but he has really been expanding his horizons musically, while still holding onto the driving, techy sound which gained him multitudes of fans. Above all this is absolutely stellar remix work, might be one of the top remixes I've heard all year right up there with Moar Levi's remix of The Editors. Dare I say this has a hint of a Prydz sound to it? If you knew how much I loved Prydz you would consider that the ultimate compliment. Either way, this is equally as driving and melodic and a gift to those who actually enjoy some song structure to their dance music.

Tiesto & DJ Punish - Shocker (Iwaro 'Lethal Industry' Melody Resample)

Artist:Tiesto & DJ Punish
Track: Shocker (Iwaro 'Lethal Industry' Melody Resample)
Label: bootleg

I heard this one the other week on Tiesto's Club Life radio show and I thought it was absolutely genius, and apparently so did he. I've already posted "Shocker" before, mainly because it is absolutely menacing in person, almost overwhelming. But merging something classic and familiar with a new hit, that one really tickles the heart strings. Kudos to Iwaro.

Fatboy Slim & Riva Starr - Eat Sleep Rave Repeat (Calvin Harris Remix) + Rivaz & Benny Benassi - Tell Me Twice

Artist: Fatboy Slim & Riva Starr
Track: Eat Sleep Rave Repeat (Calvin Harris Remix)
Label: Skint

The Godfather is at it again, this time partnering up with another vet, Riva Starr. This track almost reminds me a bit of "Star 69" back in the day with the vocal overlays. Either way you really can't go wrong with a Fatboy Slim track. The real clincher here is the Calvin Harris remix that absolutely bangs. It's a little bit of a left turn for his sing songy usual radio stuff, so I can't wait to hear it again at a festival.

Also I can't forget another Godfather can I? And the track every girl knows the words to, the mega-anthem "Tell Me Twice" (below); that everyone from your Aunt Susan to your little sister's 3rd grade teacher knows. One to bang out to and one to comb your bangs to. Welcome to the weekend.

Beat Service - Aurora

Artist: Beat Service
Track: Aurora
Label: Beat Service Audio

God damn it, Beat Service are just so fucking good. And this newest one....don't get me starting on the amount of hands in the air when it's played live. I've posted about him before, how I consider him truly the epitome of exciting trouse and every one of their songs is better than the next. I'm not kidding, go read about it HERE and HERE. But "Aurora" you really got me in the heart on this one. As a favorite of Markus Schulz you always pretty much guaranteed to hear some Beat Service in a set or radio show, which is heaven to me. One of my favorite DJ's playing one of my favorite producers. Perfecto.

Fisherman & Hawkins - Rude Awakening + Fisherman & Hawkins - Gold

Artist: Fisherman & Hawkins
Track: Rude Awakening
Label: Soundpiercing

And they do it again. Just like their absolute monster stormer ridiculousness of a track "Apache" which was pretty much my find of last year, "Rude Awakening" comes in with that fire. Though it is not as drop heavy as Apache, it is an amazingly polished off record. Something about their sound is so digital but so crisp. Sometimes when you move away from hardware or the more analog plug ins you lose a bit of that warmth. Not so with Fisherman & Hawkins, as demonstrated by "Gold" below as well. The Dutch wonder men are going places in the world of trance I tell ya.

Track: Gold

Adventure Club & Krewella - Rise & Fall

Artist: Adventure Club & Krewella
Track: Rise & Fall
Label: white

So today is my Monday and a bit of a struggle for me, safe to say I'm having a real issue with eye contact at this point. After a weekend of partying culminating with Paige and R3hab absolutely destroying a daytime Sunday Funday party in New Jersey, I may need a nap. This one is a bit old but I've had this collaboration on my rainy day play list for a while now and since it's been n multiple forms of media, youtube festival recaps and whatever else you can throw a stick at I figured I should post it.. I do love Adventure Club and Krewella is most definitely the darlings or the scene right now. Seems fitting for a day like today.

Ummet Ozcan - The Cube

Artist: Ummet Ozcan
Track: The Cube
Label: Revealed

Ummet Ozcan really is giving Orjan Nilsen a run for his money for the title of breakout producer aka king of the headbangers this year. "The Cube" is absolutely massive in every way and an amazing build up track if you have the pleasure of hearing it on the big speakers. The break around 2:50 is monstrous and considering this is on Hardwell's Revealed Recordings I'm sure this one is going to be banged out all summer. Welcome to the weekend.

Martin Garrix - Animals

Artist: Martin Garrix
Track: Animals
Label: Spinnin

This little jam is sitting comfortably atop the Beatport #1 position which it achieved rather quickly. This one was floating around the festivals at the beginning of the summer as an ID track but a few weeks ago the official name was given. If you've been out literally anywhere within the past month you've heard this one played. Its usually around 6 PM on the main stage while you're watching the entire festival jump from the elevated VIP area. Remember? Sub-bass is a hell of a thing.....

John O'Callaghan & Full Tilt feat. Karen Kelly - Breathe (Will Atkinson Remix)

Artist: John O'Callaghan & Full Tilt feat. Karen Kelly
Track: Breathe (Will Atkinson Remix)
Label: Captivating Sounds

Who's afraid of 138? What about 140? Not me. Any one who knows me in real life knows I'm a huge JOC/Alec M.O.R.P.H/Sean Tyas/Simon Patterson/Bryan Kearney/Mark Sherry fanboy. Add Full Tilt to that and I'm in heaven. There's just something about the driving beat and bass line that gets me every time. Sure 128 BPM is nice to nod your head at to at work or while driving, but if you want to dance.....oh if you want to dance.....this is it.

Skytech - Clear Vision

Artist: Skytech
Track: Clear Vision
Label: Soundpiercing

What's that you say? You're looking for an example of legit trance to have your friends who still have no yet gotten u on their trance game to listen to as an example? But you don't want that floaty, vocal, kids decked out in neon kind of trance? Well here ya go friend. Skytech. The young Pole has been doing some damage recently with his productions and believe me DJs are taking notice. This is big room, layered, ominous, high energy, peaktime trance. This is the post 2 AM stuff that you play after the kids go to bed.

Artist: Above & Beyond ft. Richard Bedford
Track: On My Way To Heaven (Seven Lions Remix)

If you're looking for something a little bit different but still amazing and awesome in its' own right you've come to the right place. The pairing up of one of my all time favorite DJs and producers with remix work by a gentleman who a quickly becoming a leader in not only the atmospheric but overall dubstep/bass scene. Seven Lions has made a name for himself extremely fast with his live sets and especially with production and remixes like this one and the tracks below. If you haven't heard of or heard any tracks or sets from Seven Lions I recommend you do a google search and bone up.

Cosmic Gate - Crushed

Artist: Cosmic Gate
Track: Crushed
Label: Black Hole

At this point I must have seen Cosmic Gate over twenty times over the course of a decade or so. The explosion of mainstream EDM culture has made seeing your favorite DJs multiple times in one year possible whereas in the past you would wait for years for that one chance to randomly see them. Cosmic Gate is one of those groups that really has stood the test of time and continuously evolves their sound, music and style. When you have other DJs dropping "Firewire" in the middle of heir sets just to hype up the crowd you know you've been doing something right all these years. I remember hearing this one at Ultra and it was just unreal. Welcome to the weekend.

Orjan NIlsen - XIING

Artist: Orjan Nilsen
Track: XIING
Label: Armind

I can say without a doubt that this is the true breakout year for Orjan Nilsen, I've personally been listening to "Violetta", "No Saint Out of Me" and now XIING nonstop for weeks. One, because they're highly infection, high energy and overall fun tracks. Two, because they're fuckin bangers. He has a touch of that early-2000's quality of trance that I came up with and really enjoy. Sometimes trance get's a bit off base and back in the day you had your floaty guys and your hard guys. Now there really isn't a distinction between hard house, hardstyle, tech trance, hard trance, whatever. Orjan brings it back for me a little bit to the "Euphoria" series days with this one.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike - Chattahooche (The Tomorrowland Anthem) + Wakanda

Artist: Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike
Track: Chattahooche (The Tomorrowland Anthem)
Label: white

So if you're familiar with dance music and you've been around the block a couple of times you will recognize the sample from this track from the old days. I personally like the track as an anthem, but I feel like they maybe could have broadened their spectrum a bit on the sampling. To me the track is vastly different from "Wakanda" below because I am familiar with the original sample. Maybe it's a continuation or a theme? Who knows, some people just need to get their panties out of their ass and enjoy the music. I personally cant wait to get to Chattahooche for Tommorowworld.

Artist: Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike
Track: Wakanda
Label: Axtone

Chris Schweizer - The Kraken

Artist: Chris Schweizer
Track: The Kraken
Label: Soundpiercing

This one has been floating around the scene for a few months, and I must have heard it in about a dozen podcasts and radio shows at this point. That bass line is absolutely unrelenting and the build up is familiar enough to be identifiable for most EDM heads, whether it's trance, prog, trouse, whatever. Either way, this one is a guaranteed crowd starter.

The Bloody Beetroots ft. Paul McCartney and Youth - Out of Sight

Artist: The Bloody Beetroots ft. Paul McCartney and Youth
Track: Out of Sight
Label: Ultra

If you're working today, get your ass out of the office and into the sunshine somewhere. A rock legend and a future dance music hall of famer. Nuff said. What a track. Welcome to the weekend.

Daniel Kandi ft. Sarah Russell - Change The World (Estiva Remix)

Artist: Daniel Kandi ft. Sarah Russell
Track: Change The World (Estiva Remix)
Label: Enhanced

I've had this one in my inbox for a couple months now but I haven't really had the full appreciation for it until now. Estiva played a trance loft party in Queens, NY over the weekend along with Arctic Moon, Heatbeat, Eco and a couple others.....and they dropped this one in the middle of their set. I will have to say it was definitely one of the highlights of the night. If you're in America, HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

MAKJ - Springen

Artist: MakJ
Track: Springen
Label: Hysteria

MAKJ getting the credit they deserve by having their newest production blow up recently. These guys have been around for a bit, dropping bombs on remixes and mash-ups; now it's their time to step into the limelight. "Springen" has been getting dropped right in the middle of all the heavies sets at the festivals this year, it's straight up big speaker energy all around. Obviously being on Bingo Players label doesn't hurt a bit either....

Pryda - Rotonda

Artist: Pryda
Track: Rotonda
Label: Pryda

The Prydz b-side to "Layers", the man cannot stop putting out hits. It looks like his time spent her in America has affording him some creativity and he is amassing a huge catalogue of legendary songs at this point. You'll recognize this one from any one of his live sets or mixes, just be thankful this one is getting an official release.

ilan Bluestone & Jerome Isma-Ae - Under My Skin

Artist: ilan Bluestone & Jerome Isma-Ae
Track: Under My Skin
Label: Ajunabeats

This is another one of those tracks that I didn't find particularly earth shattering the first time I heard it, but every time I listened to it I liked it more and more and more. Until finally......it was in my head every day. That break is just so god damn good. The escalation and chord progression, not to mention the pairing of two of my favorite producers at the moment. Both Bluestone and Isma-Ae have very different production stylings when producing separately, but it's like they created a whole new production sound by teaming up. Many times you can tell that the different production aspects were introduced by the individual producer on the track, their "signature sound" which everyone recognizes. Not with these two, they created something out of thin air and its phenomenal.
